Breminale and the Pancake Ship

According to Thimo, Cameron and Rachel picked the best time to come to Bremen. First of all, we have pretty good weather now, but more importantly, Breminale is happening.

Breminale is similar to a fair in the US with little shops for food and beer and tents for live music. We met up with some people from my work: Thimo, David (from Mexico), and Federico (from Italy), so needless to say, we had quite a diverse group.

We were lucky enough to be able to catch a performance by a native German singer, Leslie Clio. She is originally from Hamburg, but she sings in English, which made things more enjoyable for Cameron and Rachel.

Throughout the week, Cameron and Rachel would travel while I was stuck at work, but thankfully, we were usually able to meet up for dinner. One night we went to Ständige Vertretung (StäV), which offers some traditional German dishes. Cameron got the "Grunkohl" (the green cabbage dish that is typically only offered between November and February; this is the only restaurant to offer it year-round). Rachel and I both got the Labskaus, which upon first glance looked like raw beef. I'm still not entirely sure what it was, but it was pretty good!

Our last meal in Bremen was reserved for a very special restaurant: the Pancake Ship! Think about it: dinner, pancakes, on a ship. Can it really get better than that?! In fact, it does... two words: dessert pancakes. More specifically, a pancake with cinnamon, apples, and ice cream. Awesome! Delicious! And, don't forget: on a ship!

It was a good week in Bremen, and I'm glad they got to experience the city I've called home for the past 6 months (yes, it has really been that long).
